Contest Winner Has First Treatment

Dr. Arjang Yazdani, B.Sc., M.D., FRCSC

Congratulations to our #WorstTattooLdn contest winner, Janice! She recently came in to the office for her first laser tattoo removal session. If you've been wondering what it's like to have your tattoo removed now you can follow Janice and her experience.

This is what Janice's tattoo of her ex looked like before her first treatment:

Here you can see our laser technician, April, holding the Picosure laser in her left hand. The laser penetrates the skin and targets the tattoo ink, essentially shattering it into tiny fragments. In her right hand she holds the chiller, which blows cold air onto the skin to keep it cool and minimize any discomfort.

The laser allows us to very precisely target the tattoo to be removed and leave the surrounding skin alone. It is also great for those individuals who want to remove part of a tattoo but not all of it. Immediately the skin begins to "frost" where the laser has reached the ink.

Unfortunately this photo is a little blurry, but it was taken about 10 minutes after the first removal session was complete. The frosting has diminished considerably and you can already see parts of the face where the tattoo has been completely removed.

The tattoo is covered with a lubricant to keep it hydrated during the healing process and covered with a bandage. This can be removed within 24-48 hours. Janice will return in approximately 6 weeks for her next tattoo removal treatment.

This side by side photo shows the tattoo as it was before any treatment began and how the tattoo looked approximately 10 minutes after the first treatment had ended.
